A NEW CAREER PATH WITHIN A SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY!
Are you curious about the tech sector but unsure how to get started? Generation Australia is pleased to launch this part-time program specifically tailored for First Nations learners.
In this program, you’ll get the skills and training you need to get a job in Web Development while learning amongst First Nations peers and staff.
This 14 week part-time program runs from Monday to Friday (10:00AM-2:30PM AEST). The program includes technical training combined with hands-on projects and employability skills development. We also run a 1-week Pre Program prior to the main program to set you up for success and introduce you to your peers.
What is a Web Developer?
As a Web Developer, you will be a pioneer in web design. Your role will enable you to create content, help clients create websites and features, and support your team to resolve coding issues.
The workplace for you could mean a global company in a team of 500 or a community-driven firm in a team of 5.
In this digital age, web development is everywhere, from sales to security to sustainability. It’s up to you where you want to go next.
What is Included in the Program?
- No cost to you
- Access to a First Nations mentor in program
- In-person learning hub and support offered in Adelaide and Sydney for meetups and mentoring
- Support to identify employment opportunities at the end of the program, working closely with our First Nations Industry Engagement Manager
What jobs could I do after completing the program?
Program graduates are suitable for roles including:
- Junior Front-End Web Developer
- Junior Software Engineer
- Technology Associate/Consultant
- Test Analyst / Test Engineer
- IT Support Technician
Requirements
You can apply for the program if you:
- Are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
- Are not currently in full-time employment, education or training
- Can attend online classes 5 days a week, 10:00am-2:30pm AEST for 14 weeks
- Are an Australian or NZ Citizen, permanent resident or on a Humanitarian Visa
- Have basic English literacy skills and numeracy skills
- Can demonstrate your interest in tech

- Non-technical sessions provided by a Specialist Instructor & Mentor experienced in neurodiverse learning
- 1:1 mentoring throughout the program
Considerations for Neurodivergent:
Our team will work with you to offer personalised support based on your learning needs, however, due to the intensity of the program it may not be possible for all learning needs.
If you feel you have learning requirements that need to be considered, please make sure to provide detailed information about this in your application so we can assess our capacity to best accommodate you.

Technical skills
We’ll help you learn the technical skills with lots of hands-on, interactive sessions. By the end, you’ll know:
- Create and design web development products using HTML, CSS, Javascript and React
- Learn and practise collaborative development using Git and Github version control systems
- Use effective problem-solving strategies within the tech sector
- What it takes to be a high-performing web developer based on employer input

How We Prepare You
In a world of job training programs, Generation takes a different approach to help you succeed. Generation instructors and mentors get to know each student and are there with resources, tools, and information if a student encounters a barrier.
Coaching The instructors and mentors at Generation aren’t just teachers, they’re coaches who stand by their students through successes and challenges. Resume Building The right resume can open the door to new career opportunities. Generation students learn how to create a resume that showcases their skills and experiences. Interview Rehearsal By conducting mock interviews, then providing real-time feedback and coaching, the Generation team ensures that all graduates feel confident and prepared to interview. Ongoing Support After graduation, mentors and instructors continue to check in with alums, providing support with the job search and advice for continued success. |

What Your Journey Will Look Like
- Complete your application: Go through the selection process outlined earlier
- Meet your mentor: If you gain a place, you’ll meet with your mentor before the program starts to make sure you have all the support you need to achieve your potential
- Start your training: The program begins! You’ll learn the behaviours, mindsets and technical skills to succeed in the end role.
- Get ready for your interview: As training progresses, you’ll work with the Generation team on your interview technique.

- Post Program Support: We’ll provide you with the opportunity to have industry expert volunteer coaches to help keep your skills developed, as you apply, interview and match with potential employers and career opportunities.

MEET US
10 minutesIf you are selected to participate, you will be invited to fill out an online Generation enrolment form to secure your spot on the program.
ENROLMENT
1 hourWe’ll invite you along to a briefing session and go over the interview questions with you so there are no surprises! You will then record your interview in your own time.
ORIENTATION (ONLINE)
2 daysThe first two days of the course are Orientation days. During these days, you will get to meet your instructors, program coordinator, and fellow classmates. We will go through everything you need to know to start the program together.
