New Fee-free IT Support Program Opens Career Pathways to Underrepresented Australians

Meeting demand for entry-level tech roles and tackling skills shortages across Australia
We’re proud to launch Generation Australia’s new IT Support Program—a skills-first training pathway created to help jobseekers, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, break into Australia’s growing tech workforce.
According to Jobs and Skills Australia, over 70,000 Australians are currently employed as ICT Support Technicians, with projected growth of around 1,400 new roles each year. Our program is built to meet this demand head-on, opening real career pathways for people who’ve traditionally been excluded from the sector.
“While entry-level hiring has slowed in some tech areas like web development and cybersecurity, IT Support stands out as a field with clear demand, strong mobility, and growth,” says Karena Newland, CEO of Generation Australia. “This program is purpose-built for learners looking to kick off their career in tech, with wraparound support, mentorship, and job placement built in.”
Co-designed with insights from industry partners such as Westpac and Cognizant—and backed by Generation’s global expertise—our course includes hands-on training in IT fundamentals, cloud, cybersecurity, customer service, and AI-powered helpdesk tools. Learners also benefit from career coaching and direct engagement with employers to ensure they’re truly workforce-ready.
“What sets our programs apart is the support learners receive after graduation,” Karena adds. “Our strong partnerships with leading employers are embedded from the start. By collaborating early to understand workforce needs, we design training that fills real gaps and creates new, diverse talent pipelines. This ensures our graduates don’t just land jobs—they thrive in them from day one.”
Generation Australia’s tech program graduates have been hired by more than 400 organisations, with 85% retained in employment after one year. Many see their earning potential triple in their first role. This success is driven by our holistic model, which combines technical training with personalised coaching and deep employer connections to make sure graduates are confident and job-ready.
Our programs are inclusive, accessible, and free. We’re especially focused on supporting neurodivergent people, women, career changers, First Nations communities, people from CALD backgrounds, and those with disabilities. Delivered online and part-time over 10 weeks, our IT Support Program gives learners from all walks of life the chance to build sustainable, life-changing careers in tech.
