Program FAQs

  1. How can I apply for a program?

Navigate to the page of the program you are interested in and select the APPLY NOW! button. This will take you to the sign up page. You will need to register to log in with your email address and phone number. You will then be able to log in and complete your application.

  2. Where and how will the classes be running?

All our programs are delivered online. You will be in a classroom with peers and instructor/s every day in a virtual classroom setting using Zoom and other platforms. Your every day will consist of live sessions and self-directed learning. Each day will look different, split into technical and non-technical sessions and the program will mimic work environment to boost your employability skills.

  3. What happens if I am not available to attend classes full time?

Our programs require full-time availability, usually consisting of classroom time between Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. You need to be available for the duration of the program and that can differ depending on the program. Please check the program website for the most up to date information about each program. We recognise that this may not be suitable for everyone due to work, family, or personal commitments. The reason behind our approach is that we run intense, short courses to empower participants to jump straight into a career as soon as possible. We also mimic the job environment in our classrooms by running them in business hours, to help participants adjust to the workplace before starting their new role.

If you are unable to commit to the full-time nature of our program, we encourage you to explore other part-time or flexible opportunities that may be more suitable and would be happy to discuss your situation further.

  4. Can I apply for more than one program?

Keeping your options open while seeking employment is a good way to increase your chances. As a non-profit, our aim is to try and support as many individuals as possible given our limited resources. As a result, we are not able to accept participants into more than one program. We ask that you carefully research and consider which career path is right for you to pursue.

The goal of our programs is to train you for a specific role and then support you in finding a job for that role at the end of the program. There should be no need to study more than one of our programs. You are welcome to apply to multiple, but we preference participants who are committed to working in the role that they are training for.

If you are unsure of which program to apply for, it’s no problem! Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us – our team can walk you through the options.

  5. How much does the program cost?

Our programs are at no cost to our participants! We are supported by public and private funding, as well as contributions from employers. We never charge our participants anything to take part in a Generation program.

  6. Why are there no programs available in my location?

Our programs are offered in areas which our employer relationships are and where funding is available. If you cannot find a program in your area, keep an eye on our website as future programs may be offered in other areas.

  7. I am on a student visa, can I apply for the program?

To be eligible, we cannot accept applications from those on student visas or temporary visas due to the limited length of stay in Australia. As a non-profit organisation that addresses employment barriers in Australia, we work hard to focus on what’s happening in our communities and create programs that are tailored to the long term need of employers.

  8. Can I apply for Austudy?

Unfortunately, Generation Australia is not recognised as an accredited educational institution at this time. Participants are therefore not eligible to apply for Austudy while completing our programs.

  9. My application is under review, how long is this going to take?

This depends on which stage of the application you are up to and how many applications we are reviewing at that time. You should expect to receive a response within 2-4 weeks of placing an application, so please be patient while our team reviews all the applications. You should receive an email once your application has been reviewed.

  10. Why was my application rejected?

We have limited spots on our programs, so all our applications go through a screening process and applicants are selected based on eligibility, performance and impact. If your application has been rejected, it means that either you were not eligible for the program or that we received many applications and weren’t able to offer you a spot on that program. If you require more feedback please do not hesitate to contact us. You are also welcome to apply again in the future.

  11. Do I have to complete the application process in one sitting?

No. Each program has a different application process, and may require you to do some activities which need to be viewed by a Generation team member before you can continue. Once you register, you can view the steps required and work your way through them. There is also a guide on how long each step may take on the programs webpage.

  12. Can I reapply if I don’t get in this time?

If you meet the programs criteria and are unsuccessful due to limited numbers on the program, you may reapply for a future program. Please speak to a Generation team member for more guidance on this if you would like to reapply.

  13. What support will I be provided to secure employment?

Once you have completed the program, there are opportunities for you to meet with Employer Partners, get direct 1:1 support from our Employment & Alumni Coordinator and be teamed up with a Volunteer Career Coach. We support you in CV, Cover Letter and LinkedIn building, as well as interview preparation when you locate roles you want to apply for.

  14. Is mentoring optional?

Mentoring is available to every participant whilst enrolled in a Generation program. Our mentors will work with you to identify personal goals, help you strengthen your wellbeing, refer you to support services if needed and help with your CV and interview preparation.
